RE: Motel 6 Manager (Jess)
Katella/Western
Stanton California.
(714) 891-0717
Dear Sir,
This letter is in regards to several instances that have
occurred at your Motel 6 in Stanton California. I have
been staying at this motel for the last six years and
recommend it to all my friends. I stay for the weekend
and pay in advance. I do this three times a month, so I
have become familiar with this motel. In the past several
months I have noticed a big change in the management and
property, the following is an incident that occurred at
this motel in April of this Year, and is the reason I am
contacting you. My lifelong friends Russell, Rhonda and
Tammy (brother and sisters) lost their beloved father
from a heart attack. Russ drove here from Tehachapi, Ca.
and both sisters flew here from Washington. After
arriving, they phoned me to ask about a motel that was
clean and reasonably priced. I gave them the address of
your motel 6 in Stanton. They were there for four days,
on the fourth day, the day of their father's funeral two
friends and one other family member went back to the
motel. The friends thought that Russell needed someone to
be with him, as he was very close to his father. I would
like to add that, all of your office employees were aware
of the death of Russell and Tammy's father. Approx. 30
minutes later there was a loud knock on the door".
Police open up'! Russell immediately opened the door to
be faced with a Stanton Sheriff and short black heavyset
woman, who they knew as the manager. After speaking with
the officer and explaining his situation, the officer
disgustedly looked at your manager and left the premise.
I was under the impression that most motels called the
room, informed the resident that they were loud, and
request that they quiet down.
Because of loose ends needing to be tied up in regards to
his fathers will, Russ and his sisters needed a few more
days in town. Before 10:00 am the following morning, Russ
and Tammy walked to the office to pay rent. They were
informed that the manager no longer wanted them staying
there.
It is my belief that this women manager acted in a way
that is very unprofessional and has continued to show her
prejudice against Caucasians. It appears she has a
problem dealing with the public and her actions are
showing through your motel.
The following is incident two:
Arriving at the motel approx 3:00pm on a Saturday in May,
I went to the front desk to pay for the weekend, my
husband waited outside in his car. It was very hot that
afternoon and he had a tank top on showing his arm
muscles. As I stood at the front desk the black women,
who I know as the manager, came through the front door.
She looked at the woman that was helping me and states,
there's a guy parked out in the front who looks
suspicious we may have to call the police. I immediately
spoke up and said, "He is with me", she stated
"Oh," she looked embarrassed, turned and walked
to the back office. I might add that this women manager
has registered me into the motel several times, so she
knew who I was. My husband has never been there when she
was working. Again, this manager was going on her
assumptions, not facts or truth. Did she react this way
because my husband is white? I am beginning to see a
pattern with a manager that has become detrimental to
your company.
The following is the third incident:
Last Friday I arrived at the motel at approx. 5: 30pm.
The elderly lady at the front desk is very friendly and I
love talking with her. She is one of your best and you
should interview her for the manager's position, as she
is a plus for your company. I have learned to register
when this lady is scheduled, because she makes you feel
welcomed. Many of my stays are in your 300 building, it
is quiet and has central air. I as usual requested bldg.
300. The room I was given was 315. I sometimes stay in
the non smoking rooms, as it is not necessary for me to
smoke. When I opened the door to this room, I was
disgusted. The room smelled horrible, the rug was so
filthy that I would not consider walking on it with my
bare feet. I picked up the phone and called the front
desk. I told them that the room was unacceptable and I
would like to be transferred to another. I was told that
311 was available but it was a non-smokers room. I said
that would be ok. In the background I heard a women's
voice stating, "I know she will be smoking in the
room." I went to the office to get a key card but
the only person I saw was the elderly lady and she looked
like she may have gotten reprimanded for changing my
room. It was not this ladies fault, as she does not do
the cleaning of the rugs. I myself may be going
onassumption, but the only other women I saw earlier that
day in the office was the black lady, but I can not swear
that it was her voice that I heard making this statement.
I do know that it was not the elderly lady's voice that I
heard. Room 311 was not much better but I was tired and
wanted to rest. I suffer from a rare neuro muscular
disease and need to rest frequently.
Over the last few months, I have noticed that the
premises and rooms are not as clean as they were kept
before. Your employees are not friendly (the ones that
can speak English) and your office personnel (day shift)
are some of the rudest people I have ever encountered.
Their actions and room conditions exhibit total disregard
for the public's health and safety.
Please consider this letter as a formal complaint against
this motel 6, the motel manager, who is called (Jess),
and the motel staff who have repeatedly refused to give
me the name of this manager.
My family, friends or myself will not be staying at any
of the Motel 6's until I hear confirmation that these
incidents have been addressed and resolved.
Sincerely
Linda J. Tillotson
