I stayed at the Motel 6 in Tulare, CA weekly for probably a year because it was
around the corner from hospitals in which I consult. Took me a while to get the
message. They don't clean the rooms. They make the beds, but don't change the
sheets. No knowing how long this had been going on. I found feces on one sheet,
and it took two room changes after complaining to find one that looked as if it
had been cleaned. A couple of weeks later, thinking they had "remedied" the
problem, I found another mess that looked like dried vomit in the bed. Reported
it, and this time, they comped me a room for next time. I won't go into all the
details of their total disregard for cleanliness and quality standards.
Filth and carelessness recurred three or four times (at least occurrences that I
noticed, though I probably had been sleeping on dirty sheets without
visible debris before I finally noticed it), during which I spoke with Guest
Relations by phone, and even the regional manager, who promised action but did
nothing as far as I can tell. I found a Best Western not far away that is
better.
I'm not going to write letters to Guest Relations at Motel 6. Clearly complaints
get nowhere. Interestingly, I received two letters from Motel 6,
virtually the same as yours, same syntax, same lovely sentiments, different
arrangement. Since they told me they were going to address what needed changing,
I only asked for notice that the problem had been rectified and how, so I could
return to an improved motel operation. I received only platitudes, including
"...sorry our handling has not been to your satisfaction, and this decision is
final."
I suspect that Motel 6 employs kids or adolescents lacking experience, and give
them a response format to choose from in their word processor. Little will be
gained at that level. I'll see if I can get an address of the CEO or whoever
wears the T-shirt with the tie painted on it and send him or her a note. Beyond
that, I'll begin distributing information pertinent to my experiences, to
minimize others' exposure to the health risks ostensibly uncorrected at Motel 6
in Tulare, CA.
