Motel 6 Stinks!

Please add my story to your webpage...

My band (from Los Angeles) had booked a show in Tempe, AZ. I checked in to the Motel 6 at 513 Broadway, and went to my room (one of three I'd rented). Upon entering, I noticed immediately that the toilet was stopped up. I went to the front desk and asked for a plumber to take care of it. The desk clerk told me he couldn't leave the desk, so I'd have to do it. I thought he was kidding, but he handed me a plunger (obviously well-used). I consider myself a good sport, so I took it, and tried to plunge my toilet. I was unsuccessful. I went back to the desk to ask for another room. I was told that there were no other rooms available. I went back to my room and told my band we were checking out. They left to find another hotel, while I went to get a refund. I went down to the front desk and told the guy I had to leave because we couldn't stay in a room with a broken toilet, and since they didn't have any other rooms, I'd need a refund (we'd been in the Motel 6 for less than 20 minutes!). The clerk said I'd have to talk to management. I said great, and was surprised when not one, but two men came out. I asked where these men had been when I needed my toilet plunged. I was told that it was a policy of the management for guests to do their own plumbing because, "most travelers don't like strangers in their hotel rooms." I told them that travelers don't like backed up toilets. They didn't think that was funny. I told them that I had just checked in, and wanted my money back. They said they had to inspect the rooms. I said okay, and they went to check. Then they returned and said they would NOT refund my money because one of the covers on one of the beds had been turned down. I laughed and asked if they were kidding. They said no. I told them I was a 15 year veteran of the customer service industry, and knew that their job was to satisfy the guest. They refused to refund my money, then threatened to call the police for trespassing. I asked them how I could be trespassing if I still had rooms paid for! They didn't think that was funny either, and called the police, so I left. The next day I called the Motel 6 customer service line and told them my story. The lady on the phone said (I'm NOT kidding!), "why do you think you deserve your money back? They told you that the covers were moved!" I replied that I deserved my money back because I had not stayed in the room and I was dissatisfied. She never apologized, and three days later I received a form letter saying the company was sorry, but no mention of a refund. I immediately called my Bank to dispute the charge, and I wrote to the Better Business Beureau, and I want to file some sort of health risk with SOMEONE for them handing me the plunger. Unfortunately, I'm still out my money, and I'll NEVER stay at a Motel 6 again!
